It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the departure of our Senior Male Football & All-Abilities Coordinator, Simon Riddoch.

Simon has been an integral part of the AFL Barwon team and the contribution he has held within the football community has been invaluable. Simon has been a passionate person and well known across all leagues in the region, however his impact in the BFNL, GFNL, CDFNL, All-Abilities and U18 competitions with leading the way to continually grow in a positive aspect has not gone unnoticed.

Simon’s last day with AFL Barwon will be the 2^nd of May and we wish Simon all the best in the future, I am sure he will not be a stranger and will be seen out and about in the footy community.

U18 Male & Senior Football - General Updates & Reminders
- U18 Male Football Match Day paperwork and Footballs are available from AFL Barwon office.
- U18 Male grading games (x4) start 26th April 2025.
- Last possession rule has been removed from reserve grade football, reach out to Jock Hillgrove
- All Abilities fixture requests reminder to send your clubs fixture request times and dates to Simon Riddoch.
- All Abilities players looking for a game of football – Bell Park is recruiting please contact Bell Park All Abilities football coordinator.
- Player points are being applied to CDFNL, BFNL, GDFNL, GFNL & Senior Women’s football, starting this week and are ongoing from, Monday to Friday, Clubs are reminded that player points may not be available to be granted on Saturday match days in season 2025

CDFNL Update

2025 CDFNL's Football Game times with the day beginning at 8.45am and stretch out each game start time as follows.

NOTE if the senior game is ready to start at 2pm please proceed to start the game.

Under 12’s          8.45am

Under 15’s          9.50am

Under 18’s         11.10am

Reserves            12.40pm

Seniors                 2.15pm

Otway home game start times:

U12 - 10:00

U15 - 11:10

Res - 12:40 as per other league games 

Sen - 2:15 as per other league games 

Playing Times

Playing times for Seniors, Reserves Under 18 and Under 15 games will be no later than:

Home & Away Games

If early games (prior to Seniors) are running behind time at half time the last 2 quarters are to be shortened accordingly to allow the game to finish on time. This provision is NOT applicable in finals games

12.1.1

All Senior Home and Away matches shall commence (no later than 2.15pm) The Reserve Grade matches are to commence at12.40pm, with 10 minutes grace.

12.1.2

Any Club not ready to commence play at the expiration of 10 minutes grace shall be fined unless an acceptable excuse can be given to the League. Any Club not ready to commence aSenior Grade game by 2.40pm or a Reserve grade game by 1pm shall forfeit the match, and in addition shall pay the appointed Umpires' expenses for that match. Timekeeper’s cards will be taken as final as to the time of the start of play. Umpires will note on their report the cause of any delay in starting, and whether either, or both teams were responsible for such late start. If, in the opinion of the CDFNL Board, the failure of any Club to commence before the designated forfeit time was occasioned by circumstances outside the control of that Club, the CDFNL Board may, if they see fit, order such match to be played.

13 Time of Quarters

All Senior grade matches shall consist of four quarters of 20 minutes duration with time on to be added to each quarter to which it is incurred. All Reserve grade matches shall consist of four quarters of 18 minutes duration. Time on is only to be applied in the Finals Series. All Under 15 matches shall consist of 4 quarters of 15 minutes, andUnder 18s shall consist of 4 quarters of 15 minutes.

Last Possession clarity for U15 and below

Both clubs agree prior to the game to play NO last possession rule

if both clubs reach agreement then play thegame as per normal AFL Laws of The Game will apply

If agreement is not reach – last possession rule will apply as per below.

20.8 Boundary Umpires & Out Of Bounds Rule

20.8.1 In all Senior, reserve, & U18’s games normal AFL Laws of The Game will apply.

20.8.2 Under 15’s and below games the following

“Last Possession” variation will apply.

A free kick shall be awarded against a player who:

Kicks or Handballs the football over the Boundary Line without the football being touchedby another Player;

For the purposes of defining a kick, a kick shall be an intentional action, not accidental.

When the ball comes off the foot or lower leg of a player without the intent of the playerbeing to kick the ball, it will be deemed accidental contact and will not be determined as a kick by the umpire and therefore will result in a ball-up 15 metres in from the boundary.

Senior Female Football Update
GAME DAY REMINDER:

After round 1 I wish to remind all clubs the requirements when it comes to player points and team sheets. Any questions on the below please do not hesitate to reach out to myself or Michael Limb for clarity.

Player Points

Players need to be registered before their PPV can be entered. You will need to notify me of any players who you may wish to be selected in the Seniors by C.O.B. Wednesday at the latest.

Team Sheets
- Team Sheets must reflect all and only players who are participating in the match.
- These must be made available to the umpires and opposition team managers and must mirror the information on the Interchange sheet. (ie; if 20 players are listed, there needs to be 4 on the bench)
- If a team has less than 20 players, AFL Barwon must be notified on the first business day following the match. 2 extra points will be added to that team’s TTP calculation for the day.
- Teams who exceed their allocated TTP will be sanctioned accordingly.
- Only registered players may participate in a game.
- Players can’t be handwritten on the team sheet unless it’s a last-minute change and you are able to generate them electronically immediately after the game.
- All matchday officials must be listed on the team sheet. This includes Coaches, Team Manager, Runner, Water Carriers, Trainers, Umpire Escort.
- Clubs with multiple senior teams must field 20 players in their division 1 Team before selecting their division 2 Team.
- Selected players cannot also run water or undertake any other on field role during their game.
Interchange Sheets
- Interchange sheets must be completed with the jumper numbers of all players who start each quarter on the bench recorded.
- Both team managers must sign off on the Interchange sheet at the end of the game.
- This is to be filled out even if there is no one on the bench.
Senior Female Coaches Player Award

Dear Senior Female Football Division 1 Coordinators and Coaches,

We are excited to announce that we have extended the Coaches Player of the Year award for Epworth Senior Female Football Division 1 Competition in 2025.

This year’s award is supported by our new commercial partner, P&R Food Services.

How does the award work?

Each participating Senior Female Football Division 1 Coach is to select the 5 best players on the ground from both teams (5 = Best). Therefore, you may select 5 of your own players, 5 opposition players, or a mix of 5 players from the two teams.

It is the responsibility of each Coach to update the Coaches Player of the Year Award via the following link NO later than 9.30 am the following Tuesday of the match.

Just a quick note to let you know that the grading fixtures for the first two weeks have now been entered into PlayHQ for both competitive and non-competitive competitions.

Please note that Week 2 of the non-competitive competitions is not yet finalised and will be entered into PlayHQ later this week. We’ll let you know once that’s been updated.

HIGH IMPORTANCE - Scoring Process Reminder

With Bellarine having kicked off last week, and the remainder of the GFNL commencing this week, please be reminded of scoring processes!

Position Tracking and Scoresheets
- ALL PLAYERS must be listed on both of these documents before the game commences. These lists MUST be the same.
  - Players cannot be added after the commencement of play to EITHER document.
- FIRST QUARTER STARTING POSITIONS ONLY on scoresheet
- - ALL POSITIONS including changes, recorded on position tracking sheets
  - This includes goaler chnages being notated on scoresheets via a bracket in the GS/GA boxes.
  - Please do not use landscape position tracking sheets.
Failure to complete these documents correctly may lead to loss of premiership points, goals scored AND/OR monetary fines.

BFNL/GFNL Game Time Length

Please be reminded that 19&U games are now 12-MINUTE QUARTERS, in line with C Grade.

Please find attached the updated timekeeper and scorers information document.
Player Registrations

Players are NOT PERMITTED to take the court UNLESS THEY ARE REGISTERED INBOTH PLAYHQ & NETBALL CONNECT.

“Every player must be a registered member of their club on the clubs Netball Connect and PlayHQ databases.

Penalties for not registering players with their club before they take the court: Loss of 4 Premiership Points and $50 fine to the offending club on each occurring occasion.”
Heat Policy
In the event of extreme weather conditions above 28 degrees, the following steps must be taken:

16.7.1 All quarters will be reduced and breaks extended by the following:
- Saturday 11,13,15 & 17 & Under Matches:
- - 7-minute quarters
- - 3 minute ¼ & ¾ Breaks, 5 minute ½ Break.
- C Grade, D Grade, E Grade and 19&U Matches:
- - 7 minute quarters
- - 3 minute ¼ & ¾ Breaks, 5 minute ½ Break.
- A Grade & B Grade Matches:
- - 12minute quarters
- - 5 minute ¼ & ¾ Breaks, 7 minute ½ Break.
16.7.2 Please ensure sunscreen is readily available courtside for players and umpires.

16.7.3 In the event of weather conditions of over 35 degrees it will be up to the discretion of the two clubs and umpires as to whether games will go ahead.

16.7.4 Clubs will be emailed on the Friday to advise if the above changes will be put in place on the weekend’s matches. It is up to the clubs to inform both club umpires of these changes on match day. AFL Barwon will notify Panel Umpires of any changes.

Clubs will be emailed on the Friday/Tuesday for AFL Barwon Junior Netball matches of over 35 degrees at 3:30pm the decision will be made by AFL Barwon to cancel the matches.

At this stage, shortened quarters will not need to be enacted, however, should anything change, club presidents will be contact via mobile text message.
ACTION REQUIRED: BFNL and GFNL Coaches Award – Round by Round

Please be reminded of the statewide ‘If they’re wearing green, they’re under 18’ umpiring initiative!

Our underage umpires will be out in force with both leagues commencing this weekend, and whileNO umpire deserves to be abused ordisrespected– there is absolutely no place in our competitions for disrespect of our underage umpires.

Don’t be a by-stander if this occurs – please stand up and support our umpires, and advise AFL Barwon of any instances whereby this occurs.

With round one finally here, please see some key items to be ticked off:
- Team Selection:completed by Thursday evening – up to 12 may be selected (minimum of 9 for A Grade).
  FOR A GRADE - PLEASE ALSO SELECT STARTING POSITIONS TO ASSIST WITH E-SCORING
- Printing of Scoresheets: AFTER 10am Friday to allow for late changes.
- Player Names: MUST be listed on both scoresheet and position tracking sheets.
- Game Balls: AFL Barwon branded match balls must be used.
- League Votes:MUST be completed by umpires for every game (Panel umpires to use OfficialsHQ) – time must be allowed between games for umpires to complete this task.
- Bench Officials – only 5 bench officials permitted.
- Results – must be entered into PlayHQ by 6pm – including media best players for each team. Paperwork must be submitted to AFL Barwon by 10am Monday morning via the mail slot.
E SCORING is also a requirement for ALL A Grade games (in addition to normal score process).
- Please ensure you have someone assigned to this job. Completing this task also makes your end of day administration MUCH faster

Player Registrations

Players are NOT permitted to take the court unless they are registered in BOTH PlayHQ & Netball Connect

“Every player must be a registered member of their club on the clubs Netball Connect and PlayHQ databases.Penalties for not registering players with their club before they take the court: Loss of 4 Premiership Points and $50 fine to the offending club on each occurring occasion.”

Rule Change Reminders
There are a few rule changes concerning the midweek competition for the 2025 Winter season.
1. Rule 7.1 Players must take the court in at least 4 games to be eligible to participate in that division’s finals series. If the minimum number of games is not played, the player is ineligible to play finals. (Once a player takes the court in the6th game, they are ineligible to play in a lower grade/division in the same age group).
  
  a. Number of games that seals a player in a higher division lowered from 8 games to 6 games.
2. Rule 8.6 Players may play no more than two games over one night in midweek competitions.
  8.6.1 Movement between teams is not permitted in the grading period of the competition without the explicit consent of the competition coordinator.
  8.6.2 Other competition rules relating to player movement and game limits still apply.
  
  a. Removed the part about not playing two games in the same age group over one night to hopefully reduce the number of forfeits we see from teams not being able to find fill ins. However, movement between teams is not permitted during the grading period (first 4 rounds) and competition rules relating to player movement and game limits still apply. Players will not be able to fill in for a team in the same age group if they become sealed in a higher division.
3. Rule 8.9 Players can play in both Saturday Division 2 & Friday night Finals over one weekend, however, this must not be in the same age group and must not exceed two finals per weekend.
  
  a. Previously not allowed. Must still qualify for each respective team as per rules 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1.
Midweek Affiliation Netballs

Affiliation netballs for the midweek competition will be available for collection from the AFL Barwon Highton Office between 9am and 5pm.
Other Midweek Updates

Other midweek updates can be found in the presentation slides from the netball meeting which were distributed via last week’s Bulletin (access via archive link at top of this page). This includes updates on the grading and fixturing process, key dates and arrangements for when Kardinia Park is unavailable due to AFL Games.
Representative Netball Fixtures

The representative teams will have a few weeks off their weekly competitions over the school holiday and Easter period. Games will resume on Monday 28th April.

CDFNL Representative Coach Applications for the Association Championships are now open!

The CDFNL will be entering six junior teams into the Netball Victoria Association Championships in 2025! Teams will compete across two divisions in the 13 & Under, 15 & Under, and 17 & Under age groups.

Coaching Requirements - Netball Vic requires all coaches must hold at minimal Development Level accreditation, and have a current Netball Victoria Membership.

The AFL Barwon Commission is pleased to announce the appointment of Sarah Naylor and Kim Cummins as Directors.

Sarah and Kim will fill the vacancies created by the resignations of Commissioners Michael Overman (in January) and Lachlan Young (in March). Kim will assume the remainder of Michael’s term, which continues beyond this year, while Sarah will complete Lachlan’s current term, concluding at the 2025 Annual General Meeting. As such, Sarah will be eligible for election later this year, while Kim will not be up for election at this time.

Thank you to everyone for your continued patience as I navigated my way through fixturing for the next 2 weeks of grading for all age groups of female football.

I am sure there are many girls extremely excited to start their footy journey or return to footy for another season.

As previously mentioned in club communications, we have tried to get the fixture as best as possible for the first two rounds, obviously acknowledging we may not always get it right either, however with reviewing of results weekly ensuring the required changes to have fair results for the remainder of the season is our priority.

Match Day Information and Reminders
Leading into the first week of football for 2025, please see the below important reminders to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Match Day Paperwork – Submission Process

For non-competitive football, we will continue with the QR code system introduced by Lachlan. I've made a few adjustments to simplify the process, so it’s easier to complete and no longer requires files to be renamed. The key update is that all clubs can now use the same QR code, eliminating the need for club-specific codes.

For competitive football, we’re transitioning to an online submission process, which will be the responsibility of the appointed umpires. Only AFL Barwon umpires have access to the official HQ system. In cases where there are no league-appointed umpires and parent umpires are required; I’ve provided all clubs with a generic QR code. This allows those parent umpires to submit the necessary paperwork and votes. There’s no longer a need to drop paperwork off at AFL Barwon. I strongly recommend keeping any paperwork left in the umpire rooms after each game for your records and in case we have any issues.

Team Managers – Match Day Tools

To ensure Team Managers are well-prepared for the weekend, please confirm that they’ve received the PlayHQ Team Manager Match Day Guide, which covers:
- Selecting teams
- Printing team sheets
- Entering post-game results

Multiple Teams in the Same Age Group

A quick reminder for clubs with multiple teams in the same age group, as outlined in the AFL Barwon Handbook – Junior Competition Rules:

In AFL Barwon Junior Football, a player can only play one game in a particular age group per weekend (including Friday night).

To summarize, a player can only play one game per weekend in their designated age group, regardless of when it’s scheduled.

Finals Eligibility

Please keep the following criteria in mind for Junior Finals Eligibility:

A player must play at least three AFL Barwon Junior Football games in a particular age group to be eligible for finals in that group.

Players who’ve played in a higher grade/division must play at least six (6) games in the lower grade to qualify for that team’s finals.

Players who have played more than half the season in a higher grade are ineligible for lower-grade finals.

Players may only play in one final per weekend, even if eligible across teams or age groups.

Finals eligibility is based on the number of games played during the home & away season, including grading games. Playing in older age groups, higher divisions, or rep teams counts as a higher grade.

Kicks or Handballs the football over the Boundary Line without the football being touchedby another Player;

For the purposes of defining a kick, a kick shall be an intentional action, not accidental.

Monday 28 April – Women and Girls Experience HUB at Kardinia Park
Kicking off Community Umpiring Week is a special session dedicated to engaging and supporting women and girls in umpiring. AFLW umpires will be in attendance at AFL Barwon Umpire Training from 4:30pm, offering mentorship and sharing their journey through the umpiring ranks.

Tuesday 29 April – Drysdale Precinct Satellite Training Set to Launch
Pending confirmation from the Drysdale Football Netball Club, a new satellite training venue is expected to open its doors. This marks an exciting step forward for umpiring on the Bellarine Peninsula, providing accessible training opportunities closer to home for clubs like the Peninsula Sharks.

Wednesday 1 May – A Visit from the Top
AFL and State League umpires will be in Geelong to attend AFL Barwon Umpire Training. This is a golden opportunity for local umpires to connect with the elite, ask questions, and gain insights into the professional umpiring world.

Tuesday 6 May – Surf Coast Training Begins
While outside the official week, the momentum continues with the launch of a new umpire training venue in North Torquay. This Surf Coast hub is a key piece in the ongoing expansion of umpire support and development in the region.

Umpiring: More Than Just a Whistle

Umpiring provides young people with leadership experience, keeps people active, and connects individuals to the game in a unique and rewarding way. Community Umpiring Week is about growing respect and appreciation for this role while creating a pathway for future umpires from all backgrounds and abilities.

HIGH IMPORTANCE – Player Payment (Salary Cap) Reporting
A huge thank you to all clubs who have already submitted their budgets and player contracts.

To all those who are yet to complete this step, budgets and player contracts (declared and non-declared) are due to AFL Barwon by COB April 30^th.

All clubs must submit a budget at the beginning of the season. The budget can exceed your club’s allowable player payments (as it is only a budget), but clubs must remain under their permitted player payment limit at the conclusion of the season.

All players who take the court in A Grade must also have either:
- A Standard Player Declaration
- Non-Declared player statement
Each of these Allowable Player Payment reporting documents MUST be submitted NO LATER THAN April 30th.

Coaching Accreditations - DUE APRIL 30TH

A reminder that all coaching accreditation information (Foundation Course or higher, AND Rules of Netball Certificate) must be provided to Sally Montano (This email address is being protected from spambots. This applies to head coaches and assistant coaches.

Any club who has a coach that does not obtain the relevant accreditation is subject to fines and match penalties as outlined below:

The penalty to be imposed by the CDFNL Board if coaches continue to coach having not obtained the necessary

accreditation must be:

i) a $200 fine (Senior) or $100 fine (Junior) and

ii)the loss of match points for the matches won by the team whilst the unaccredited coach continues to coach.

In the event of no match points being received the AFL Barwon must apply the above fines.

Fines are applied once only ($200 or $100) and are not applicable to every match.

Kardinia Park Carparking Impacts

Due to filming of a movie taking place at Kardinia Park from 26^th April until May 3^rd, carparking at Kardinia Park will be impacted for our Tuesday and Friday round 1 competitions.

It goes without saying, however, it is an expectation that all spectators, players, team officials, and anyone present at matches, will not engage in any sort of disrespectful behaviour towards these officials. Poor behaviour will not be tolerated.

Pre-Game Checks – Club and Panel Umpires
12.9 Club and panel umpires shall ensure that players:
- 12.9.1 Are wearing NO jewellery, earrings or piercings. NO taping of piercings allowed NOTE – wedding ring or medical alert bracelet may be taped.
- 12.9.2 Fingernails are short & smooth. NO taping allowed.
- 12.9.3 NO gloves except where a qualified and registered medical certificate is provided to the officiating umpires prior to the player taking the court for medical conditions requiring the wearing of gloves.
- 12.9.4 Sunglasses are not permitted.

Our underage umpires will be out in force with midweek commencing this next week, and while NO umpire deserves to be abused or disrespected– there is absolutely no place in our competitions for disrespect of our underage umpires.

City of Greater Geelong Fair Access Workshop

The City of Greater Geelong is excited to present a Fair Access Workshop.

The introductory workshop will be led and delivered via partnership with Regional Sporting Assembly - Leisure Networks. The workshop aims to progressively build the capacity and capabilities of the sporting Clubs and associated stakeholders in identifying and eliminating systemic causes of gender inequality in policy, programs, communications, delivery and allocation of community sports and recreation infrastructure.

Parkinson’s Fundraising Gala Luncheon
AFL Barwon is supporting the Parkinson’s Fundraising Gala Luncheon in the Captains Room at GMHBA Stadium on Friday 9^thAugust 2024 to raise money for Parkinson's Disease research.

Our esteemed colleague in Sean Atkinson (AFL Barwon: Partnerships & Communications Manager) was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s Disease in January 2023, and in supporting of his inspirational fundraising and advocacy works to date, we invite the entire community to collectively support Sean.

The luncheon will include special guest speakers in:
- Vicki Miller (Shake It Up CEO);
- John Eren (Former Minister of Sport, Tourism and Major Events);
- Dr Sanjay Raghav (Neurologist); and
- Kylie Christian (Elite Equestrian Athlete).
In addition, the Luncheon will feature a video interview from Parkinson’s disease advocate and dual Cricket & Soccer International athlete, Ellyse Perry.

Stand-up comedian, actor, and Shake It Up Ambassador Dilruk Jayasinha will MC the event.

22.1 Definitions:

A player must be in attendance, in suitable attire to take the field and at a minimum be on the field in the club’s interchange area for the duration of the game. (Unless forced to leave for medical reasons)

In this rule a reference to

Seniors = Community Club’s First Senior grade team,

Reserves = Community Club’s Second or lower Division Senior grade team,

Under 18s = AFL Barwon Club’s Under 18 grade team.

2024 U19 Female Football Finals Update

Based on club feedback, it has been noted that some clubs may face challenges in fielding a team for the U19 Female Finals scheduled initially on Sunday.

Based on this feedback we have revised the U/19 Female Finals series which will now be a standalone series held on Friday nights.

AFL Barwon appreciate the feedback received to ensure Female football at this level can still be showcased.

Please be reminded that it is a requirement that ALL A GRADE GAMES are live scored. Over the weekend, 1 of 5 BFNL games and 2 of 5 GFNL games were live scored.

All Club Admins already have e-scoring access, or it can be granted to an individual via the ‘my organisation tab’ on PlayHQ.- This only gives an individual e-score access and not full admin access.

All Abilities & Midweek Netball Update

All Abilities Netball Finals start next week!

Our All-Abilities Netball teams have finished their home and away games with finals starting next Tuesday 6th July. We will have two weeks of finals, with 1 v 4 and 2 v 3 playing next week in the semi-finals. The games will play as below.

Game 1 (2 v 3):

St Josephs v Surf Coast Suns 5:10pm Kardinia Park court 5

Game 2 (1 v 4):

Newcomb Power v Geelong West Giants 6:10pm Kardinia Park court 5

The winner from each game will play in the Grand Final on Tuesday 13th July at 5:30pm.

AFL Barwon Umpires – Colac, hosted an Umpire Experience Day for Women and Girls during the school holidays, creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all participants. The event was designed for both newcomers to the sport and those looking to refine their skills.

AFL Field Umpire Nathan Williamson made a special guest appearance, sharing his insights and experiences with the group. Additionally, Liv Grcic, (VFL umpire and AFL Women’s and Girl’s Experience Officer), attended to provide a glimpse into the life of an elite athlete.

This was Colac's second Women and Girls Umpire Experience of the year, and it was met with high expectations and excitement. Participants had the opportunity to learn the intricacies of umpiring, connect with one another, and offer mutual support."

Jock Hillgrove and Joshua James visited Torquay Football Club to educate and discuss umpiring in community football with the coaches and players.

Advanced Mentoring Course

Netball Vic are hosting an advanced mentoring course on Wednesday the 14th of August.

The Advanced Mentoring workshop has been developed for Umpire Mentors of C Badge accredited umpires who are working towards their B badge. It provides umpire mentors and umpire coaches guidance, advice and tips that they can use with their umpires to advance them through their pathway. This workshop looks at key areas of development and expectations of B badge umpires, and ways to provide effective feedback to achieve these skills with a successful mentor/mentee relationship.

Marathon Foods Community Grant

The Marathon Foods Community Grant is a targeted investment initiative designed to support our AFL Barwon clubs with projects that improve canteen or club kitchen cooking equipment and support the cooking of Marathon Food products. The objective of the program is to assist AFL Barwon affiliated clubs with small investments that will have a long-term benefit to their club and enhance community engagement.

The grants program is only available to clubs that have senior football or netball teams affiliated with the Bellarine & Geelong Football Netball League or are junior-only clubs competing in AFL Barwon Junior Male or Female Football and AFL Barwon Junior Netball competitions with no senior teams.

AFL VIC & WorkSafe have been working on the rollout of fresh signage rollout to replace old and damaged signs that stretch back to 2002.

A series of appointments have been made to bolster the AFL Victoria board. Coming onto the board as external directors are Damian Drum and Clare Walker, who together bring skills and experience from distinguished backgrounds covering a mix of sport, politics and business.

Nominations can be made by any member of the community and is open to all AFL Barwon Affiliated Clubs and Leagues (GFNL, BFNL, CDFNL, GDFNL, Female Football, Junior Football & Netball, and All Abilities FNL).

Nominations close for all Community Award Categories at 5pm on Friday August 9th.

Shortlisted nominees will be notified in the first week of September with the event to take place on Friday October 25th.

Comp Rule 3 -Registrations

3.1 Every player must be a registered member of their Club and approved by their Club Committee.

23 Under 18s Competitions

23.1 Player Qualification Criteria

23.1.1 Where there are multiple divisions, all other than thelowest graded competition are deemed to be an “18 a side competition” with a maximum of 23 players and a minimum of 14 players.

23.1.2 The Lowest Graded Competition is deemed to bea “16 a side competition” with a maximum of 23players and a minimum of 14 players. If either side has less than 16, both teams must play with the same number of players. If both sides have 20 or more players on the day, then both teams will field 18 players

5 Interchange/Order Off Rule

Interchange and order-off rules are to operate for Seniors, Reserves and Under 18s as per AFL VictoriaRule 10.0 & AFL Laws of Australian Football Rule 7.

Note:All underage competitions inclusive of Under 18 Colts are to comply with theabove Rules and areunable to replace carded players until the relevant playing time has elapsed. (Yellow Card = 15 minutes. Red Card = 20 minutes)

In all AFL Barwon Senior & Reserve matches any player receiving a yellow or red card may be replaced immediately. A player receiving a red card in any grade is to remain off the field for the remainder of the game. A player receiving a yellow card can return to the field after 15 minutes of playing time has elapsed.

5.1 Interchange bench numbers in all Senior Football Leagues are four (4), Reserves & Under 18s are five (5).

5.2 For all AFL Barwon competitions, Clubs shall be required to field a minimum of 14 players to commence the game. Failure to do so will result in their side forfeiting the match.

5.3 If any irregularities are noted on the Interchange sheet, the Commission shall have the power to determine a fine and to deal with the match as they deem appropriate.

- Collect paperwork and football from the umpires’ post-game & get the all-clear.
- Collect the best players and goalkickers from the club post-game & notify them of any reports or review requests.
- Results entry after each game were (live scores) possible.

Tuesday night saw the final round of the 11&U competition, with Party Round being held this Sunday to celebrate the end of the season.

Each player receives a participation certificate for their involvement in the competition. These certificates will be available for clubs to collect at Party Round on Sunday. Otherwise club coordinators are welcome to organise pick up from the AFL Barwon office in Highton.

BFNL 2024 finals start this weekend, well done and good luck to all teams participating.

Week one & Two of the BFNL 2024 Qualifying and Elimination Finals will be held at Portarlington, all game times are available on PlayHQ.

Fixtures and team info are found via the button below.

Host & Participating clubs game day responsibilities.
- Host Club: Portarlington FNC
- Umpire escorts
- Scoreboard attendant
- Interchange & look after Spare football.
Participating Clubs:Anglesea, Bannockburn, Barwon Heads, Colac, Drysdale, Geelong Amateur, Grovedale, Modewarre & Queenscliff.
- Timekeepers – important to have a timekeeper sorted during the week not the day of the game. (Ensure clubs come out on time)
- Team sheets (can either be given directly to the umpires or via AFLB Staff 1 copy for AFL Barwon staff)

REMINDER - Game Day (Senior Male & U18)
13.3 Both Home and Away Team Managers
- Both Team managers are responsible for the following match-day duties
- Provide Team Sheet to the umpires, showingall players with correct jumper numbers and all officials with correct numbers where applicable generated from PLAY HQ Data Base and signed by the Team
Comp Rule 3 -Registrations

3.1 Every player must be a registered member of their Club and approved by their Club Committee.

23 Under 18s Competitions

23.1 Player Qualification Criteria

23.1.1 Where there are multiple divisions, all other than thelowest graded competition are deemed to be an “18 a side competition” with a maximum of 23 players and a minimum of 14 players.

23.1.2 The Lowest Graded Competition is deemed to bea “16 a side competition” with a maximum of 23players and a minimum of 14 players. If either side has less than 16, both teams must play with the same number of players. If both sides have 20 or more players on the day, then both teams will field 18 players

5 Interchange/Order Off Rule

Interchange and order-off rules are to operate for Seniors, Reserves and Under 18s as per AFL VictoriaRule 10.0 & AFL Laws of Australian Football Rule 7.

Note:All underage competitions inclusive of Under 18 Colts are to comply with theabove Rules and areunable to replace carded players until the relevant playing time has elapsed. (Yellow Card = 15 minutes. Red Card = 20 minutes)

In all AFL Barwon Senior & Reserve matches any player receiving a yellow or red card may be replaced immediately. A player receiving a red card in any grade is to remain off the field for the remainder of the game. A player receiving a yellow card can return to the field after 15 minutes of playing time has elapsed.

5.1 Interchange bench numbers in all Senior Football Leagues are four (4), Reserves & Under 18s are five (5).

5.2 For all AFL Barwon competitions, Clubs shall be required to field a minimum of 14 players to commence the game. Failure to do so will result in their side forfeiting the match.

5.3 If any irregularities are noted on the Interchange sheet, the Commission shall have the power to determine a fine and to deal with the match as they deem appropriate.
REMINDER - Finals Eligibility (Senior Male & U18)
22 Eligibility For Finals

22.1 Definitions:

A player must be in attendance, in suitable attire to take the field and at a minimum be on the field in the club’s interchange area for the duration of the game. (Unless forced to leave for medical reasons)

In this rule a reference to:
- Seniors = Community Club’s First Senior grade team
- Reserves = Community Club’s Second or lower Division Senior grade team
- Under 18s = AFL Barwon Club’s Under 18 grade team

Note:
- Requirements are for games played in the current season
- Grading games are included in calculations

All participating clubs will be issued tickets as outlined in last week’s email to presidents and secretaries. Each club must nominate an email address for tickets via the FORM ATTACHED TO THAT EMAIL.

Only one email address per club is permitted.

These will be issued by COB Tuesday of each week.

Please encourage your members who plan to attend to pre-purchase to take advantage of faster entry to the grounds, via our INTIX website (link under "General Updates")

Junior Players and Ticketing

All Junior Netball players will be allocated One (1) complimentary adult admission with all junior player’s (13&U, 15&U, & 17&U) allocated admission ticket.

For this offer to be valid, the junior player and adult must proceed through the admission gate at the same time.

(No ticket physically allocated, but entry permitted when entering with child).

A reminder that teamsMUST BE SELECTED BY 12pm Wednesday to enable us to type up position tracking sheets for the weekend.

PLEASE ensure this is completed to support us in preparing for the each week’s schedule.

Finals Scorers Duties

Each club will have been allocated one or more scorers duties – Please respond with the NAME OF THE PERSON FILLING THIS DUTY BY COB WEDNESDAY of each week once received.

If your scorer is not someone who is already a member of a participating team, please advise and this can be issued separately.

Female Football and Netball Finals

In anticipation of there potentially being impacted players between football and netball this finals series, please be advised of the below process should you be aware of any clashes. Netball times are fixed, however there may be some scope to manipulate football times if we are informed early enough.
- AS SOON as the clash is identified, please email myself and Paris Rowe to advise.
- i.e. 2v3 netball played on Saturday & game is lost so know they will play Sunday the following week – email SATURDAY NIGHT to inform us as soon as possible.
WeMUST be informed by 5pm Sunday of that weekend IN WRITING – no requests post this time will be considered.

We will make every effort to mitigate a clash, however it is not always possible and cannot be guaranteed. Early communication on your part supports us in supporting you.

The Marathon Foods Community Grant is a targeted investment initiative designed to support our AFL Barwon clubs with projects that improve canteen or club kitchen cooking equipment and support the cooking of Marathon Food products. AFLW Sausage Sizzle
AFLW Local Footy Sausage Sizzles are back for the 2024 Geelong Cats AFLW season.

Get your club together this AFLW season and a run a sausage sizzle at one of the AFLW home games at GMHBA Stadium in 2024.

All resources are supplied, all you need to do is turn up in your colours, sell some sausages and raise some funds for your club.

All funds raised must be used to benefit your female football program at your local club.

Requirements:
- All volunteers must complete a free food safety course (Home - DoFoodSafely (health.vic.gov.au))
- Provide names and head shots of volunteers for AFL accreditations to access the GMHBA pre-game
- Provide your club’s logo in PDF, AI or EPS (High Resolution JPEG files are also accepted)

Epworth Geelong Acute Concussion Clinic – Now Open

If you or a family member has recently suffered a concussion and are unsure of the next steps, Epworth Geelong is here to assist.

The Epworth Geelong Acute Concussion Clinic, which opened in mid-June 2024, is a physiotherapist-led facility that can refer patients to specialist medical services.

This clinic is the first of its kind in the Greater Geelong community, designed to support concussion sufferers aged 16 and older, as well as their families, within the first month following the injury.

The clinic offers assessments, education, advice on returning to play and work, and exercise prescriptions to aid in recovery.

As an adjunct service, the Acute Concussion Clinic integrates with the Epworth Geelong Outpatients Concussion Clinic for those requiring further rehabilitation.

The clinic operates from 8:30am to 12:00pm on Tuesdays, located in the Outpatient Department on the lower ground floor at Epworth Geelong.

Patients who present with concussion symptoms at the Epworth Geelong Emergency Department can be referred to the Acute Concussion Clinic for follow-up care.

Additionally, general practitioners can directly refer patients to the clinic.

Boost For Football and Netball Across Victoria

The Allan Labor Government is supporting local footy and netball clubs as they head towards the finals, with new grants to ensure more Victorians can play the sport they love close to home in regional Victoria.

Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence today visited the home of the Barnawartha Tigers Football and Netball Club to announce applications for the latest round of the Labor Government’s Country Football and Netball Program are now open.

Grants of up to $250,000 are available for regional and outer metropolitan councils to apply for grants for sports infrastructure developments including court lighting upgrades, changeroom overhauls, new pavilions and more, to benefit their local clubs and communities. 

Successful recipients in recent years include the Hepburn Shire Council which received $250,000 for netball court and oval lighting upgrades at Daylesford Football Netball Club, and $250,000 for Hindmarsh Shire Council to upgrade Nhill and District Sporting Club’s home ground at Davis Park. 

Developed in partnership with the AFL, AFL Victoria and Netball Victoria, the program has invested more than $40 million and delivered more than 575 projects since 2005.

The Labor Government’s Country Football and Netball Program is part of more than $23 million invested in this year’s budget and more than $2.3 billion invested since 2014 to deliver world class community sport infrastructure and programs that increase participation and improve accessibility for more Victorians.

The Dyson Group of Companies, incorporating the legendary Cobb & Co brand, is pleased to announce the launch of the next round of the Dysons Community Grants.

The program, now in it’s fourth year, has been established to provide grants in support of the many sporting, educational, welfare and community groups around Victoria, and to date almost 100 grants have been distributed.

There are two rounds of grants annually, each with $10,000 available (maximum grant $1000). Eligible organisations include pre-schools, primary and secondary schools, sporting clubs, not-for-profit groups, charities, welfare agencies, local societies and volunteer emergency services.

This next round of grants opens on 1 September and closes 30 September 2024.

BFNL 2024 second weekend of finals, well done and good luck to all teams participating.

Week Two of the BFNL 2024 Finals will be held at Portarlington, all game times are available on PlayHQ.

Host & Participating clubs game day responsibilities:
- Host Club: Portarlington FNC
- Umpire escorts
- Scoreboard attendant
- Interchange & look after Spare football.
Participating Clubs:

Anglesea, Barwon Heads, Drysdale, Geelong Amateur, Modewarre, Ocean Grove, Queenscliff, St Joseph’s, St Mary’s & Torquay.
- Timekeepers – It is important to have a timekeeper sorted during the week not the day of the game. (Ensure clubs come out on time)
- Team sheets (can either be given directly to the umpires or via AFLB Staff 1 copy for AFL Barwon staff Michael Limb)
- Best Players & Goalkickers (give to AFLB staff post-game)
AFL Barwon Staff:
- Footballs (One to umpires – Spare to interchange steward)
- Paperwork (To umpires and timekeepers)
- Brief timekeepers regarding time on in Reserves & Under 18s, as well as extra time procedures
- Ensure clubs come out on time.
- Collect paperwork and football from the umpires’ post-game & get the all-clear.
- Collect the best players and goalkickers from the club post-game & notify them of any reports or review requests.
- Results entry after each game.
Please be kind to our gatekeepers they are doing a great job, please ensure all club members understand entering the gate is at a cost.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
- Everyone must pay the admission Fee.
- Local council by – laws forbid taking ALCOHOL into public reserves.
- It is a condition of Entry that vehicles be inspected for illegal entry of alcohol.
- Failure to comply with this request will result in the vehicle not being permitted to enter the reserve.
- ALCOHOL is not to be consumed before 12pm.
- No Glass allowed.
- Any alcohol detected entering any venue will be confiscated and will NOT be returned to the patron.
- Utilities or trucks with couches or lounge chairs on the back will not be permitted entry.

Ticketing and Entry

Please be reminded that only those with a valid ticket will be admitted to BFNL or GFNL Finals without payment. Tickets are day specific, and cannot be used more than once.

Please encourage your members who plan to attend to pre-purchase to take advantage of faster entry to the grounds, via out INTIX website.

No ticket? You’ll be required to make payment to gain entry.

Please also be reminded that CONDITIONS OF ENTRY apply to all gated finals. This includes but is not limited to:

If your scorer is not someone who is already a member of a participating team, please advise and a ticket can be issued separately.

Junior Midweek Finals Update

See below important information for Midweek finals starting this Friday 23rd August. All clubs should have received this earlier in the week via email.

Finals Format

The format for the finals series is as follows:
- Semi-final – Friday 23rd August: 1v2 and 3v4
- Preliminary final – Friday 30th August: L1 v W2
- Grand final – Friday 6th September: W1 v W3
Game Procedures

For the semi-finals, game will be played at: 4:40pm, 5:45pm, and 6:50pm.All games for finals will be played at Kardinia Park.

We have allowed extra time between each time slot in case of a drawn game. Drawn game procedures are as follows:
- There is a four (4) minute interval at the end of full time to enable scores to be verified on the score sheet.
- Positional changes and substitutions may be made during change over time.
- 2 x 5-minute halves will be played.
- At the end of the first half teams have a 1-minute break, teams change ends, positional changes & substitutions are allowed.
- Should there still be a draw at the end of the second half of extra time, play continues until one team has a two-goal advantage and therefore declared the winner.
Team Line Up/Player Eligibility

AFL Barwon will be providing pre-filled position tracking sheets for each team.

Players will not be able to take the court if found ineligible for finals (i.e., have not played 4 games for the team).

No players are to be handwritten on the scoresheet except by an AFL Barwon staff member at the office as we will need to check their eligibility beforehand. If a player is greyed out and unable to be selected in the team line-up on PlayHQ this means they are ineligible to play finals. Please email me if you need to double check finals eligibility for these players.

Players can only play one (1) final per night (i.e., a player cannot play in both a 13&U and 15&U final game).

Team Officials and Bench Conduct

Please remember that only team officials (up to 5 people) and players are allowed to sit on the bench. Parents and spectators will need to sit elsewhere around the court. If a spectator is asked to move by an umpire mentor or another AFL Barwon staff member, please do so quickly to ensure you do not disturb the game. Also, a reminder thatonly the players may approach the umpires at the breaks and only to pose a question. Please be respectful towards our umpires and mentors. Umpire dissent will not be tolerated at any stage. If you have an issue, please talk to an umpire mentor or AFL Barwon staff member at the office.

Scoring/Game Ball

Both teams will need to provide a scorer for the game. Please ensure that both scorers have visibility/access to the scoreboard. Goal attempts are only required for the 17&U games.

The scoreboards will be taken to each the court by the umpires with the game ball. AFL Barwon will be providing all game balls for finals.

Uniforms/Clash Bibs

Players must be wearing their club uniform as per the uniform register in thehandbook. GDFNL clubs and junior only clubs, please wear uniform as predetermined by your club.

Junior players (11&U through to 17&U) may wear long-sleeved tops underneath their approved uniform. If multiple players choose to wear a long-sleeve top, please ensure they are matching in colour.

Away teams are responsible for providing clash bibs if there is a clash of playing uniform. The team listed second on the scoresheet is deemed the ‘away’ team. Recognised clashes are:
- Torquay, Grovedale, St Josephs, Bannockburn, Colac,
- Queenscliff, South Barwon, Portarlington, Bell Post Hill, North Shore

GFNL Award Nominations – Rising Star of the Year

A change in criteria for the Rookie of the Year has led to it evolving to the Rising Star of the Year award.

This prestigious accolade is awarded to a standout player who is under 21 years of age as of January 1 of each calendar year.

Criteria:
- All clubs can nominate a maximum of 2 players from their club that meet the criteria of a “rising star”.
- These players must be under 21 years of age as of the 1st of January of that calendar year.
- They must have played no more than 10 A Grade netball games prior to the commencement of the current season.
- All nominations must be accompanied by text describing the achievements of the nominated players and the reason they have been nominated, along with a photo emailed to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
- The selection panel made up of the H&ASC will then determine the 6 finalists and the eventual winner. Recommendations on the finalists will be sought from the Netball Operations Team.

Netball Victoria are running four free interactive sessions with National League Umpires and Umpire Coaches Tim Marshall and Jo Davidson, discussing game management during netball finals.

AFLW Sausage Sizzle - Closing August 23

AFLW Local Footy Sausage Sizzles are back for the 2024 Geelong Cats AFLW season.

Get your club together this AFLW season and a run a sausage sizzle at one of the AFLW home games at GMHBA Stadium in 2024.

All resources are supplied, all you need to do is turn up in your colours, sell some sausages and raise some funds for your club.

All funds raised must be used to benefit your female football program at your local club.

Requirements:

All volunteers must complete a free food safety course (Home - DoFoodSafely (health.vic.gov.au))

Provide names and head shots of volunteers for AFL accreditations to access the GMHBA pre-game

14.2.2 Finals
- Senior Male competitions will play Time On according to rules applicable during Home and Awayseason
- Reserves Male and all Under 18s games will be played according to advertised times WITH Time On forexcessive stoppages only. Ie: When the ball goesout of bounds time on will NOT be added unless thefield umpire signals that they consider there will be an excessive delay caused by the ball going over thefence or another significant delaying factor.
- “Time on” is be signalled by the field umpires by either raising one hand above their head OR bycrossing both arms across their chest or when a goal umpire signals a score is recorded (NOT when they complete waving their flags).
Teams must have entered the field at least 5 minutes prior to their scheduled start time. Penalty: $100

Important Information for the Day:

- Alcohol Restrictions: In accordance with local council bylaws,bringing alcohol into public reserves is strictlyprohibited.
- No Glass: Glass containers of any kind are not permittedon the premises.
- Vehicle Restrictions: Vehicles such as utes or truckswith couches or lounge chairs on the back will not begranted entry.
- Pet Policy: Dogs are not allowed on the field of playunder any circumstances.

Please be reminded that only those with a valid ticket will be admitted to BFNL or GFNL Finals without payment. Tickets are day specific, and cannot be used more than once.

Please encourage your members who plan to attend to pre-purchase to take advantage of faster entry to the grounds, via our INTIX website.

No ticket? You’ll be required to make payment to gain entry.

Please also be reminded that CONDITIONS OF ENTRY apply to all gated finals. This includes but is not limited to:

GFNL Award Nominations – Rising Star of the Year – NOMINATIONS EXTENDED – CLOSE END OF WEEKEND

A change in criteria for the Rookie of the Year has led to it evolving to the Rising Star of the Year award.

This prestigious accolade is awarded to a standout player who is under 21 years of age as of January 1 of each calendar year.

Criteria:
- All clubs can nominate a maximum of 2 players from their club that meet the criteria of a “rising star”.
- These players must be under 21 years of age as of the 1st of January of that calendar year.
- They must have played no more than 10 A Grade netball games prior to the commencement of the current season.
- All nominations must be accompanied by text describing the achievements of the nominated players and the reason they have been nominated, along with a photo emailed to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
- The selection panel made up of the H&ASC will then determine the 6 finalists and the eventual winner. Recommendations on the finalists will be sought from the Netball Operations Team.

Junior Netball Finals Update

See below important information for Midweek preliminary finals and the Junior Netball Presentation night.

Game Times

For the preliminary finals, game will be played at: 5:00pm, and 6:10pm.All games for finals will be played at Kardinia Park.

Position Tracking Sheets

AFL Barwon will be providing pre-filled position tracking sheets for each team. AFL Barwon issued position tracking sheets must be used by all teams as we type these up with only qualified/selected players. Please do not use your own position tracking sheet.

Player Eligibility

Players must have played in at least 4 games to qualify for that teams' finals series. No players are to be handwritten on the scoresheet unless by an AFLB staff member.

Players can only play one (1) final per night (i.e., a player cannot play in both a 13&U and 15&U final game).

Team Officials and Bench Conduct

Please remember that only team officials (up to 5 people) and players are allowed to sit on the bench. Parents and spectators will need to sit elsewhere around the court.

Also, a reminder thatonly a captain or player may approach the umpires at the breaks and only to pose a question. Please be respectful towards our umpires and mentors. Umpire dissent will not be tolerated at any stage. If you have an issue, please talk to an umpire mentor or AFL Barwon staff member at the office.

Junior Netball Presentation Night

The Junior Netball Presentation Night will be held on Tuesday 10th September at the Deakin Cats Community Centre. We will be presenting the Best & Fairest awards for all three junior competitions (BFNL, Midweek and GFNL) on this night, as well as numerous other junior netball awards.

All clubs will receive a list of invited attendees next week following the conclusion of the GFNL home and away season.

On Monday night, AFL Barwon umpires were joined by AFLW Umpires Jenna Green and Emily Best at the AFL's Women and Girls Umpire Experience Hubs. This was the final session of a 3 part series this year to bring together women and girls from the AFL Barwon region in an upskilling workshop. 

Umpires experienced a 'Game Day Fuelling Workshop' created by Advanced Sports Dietitian, Ali Miles. Then chatted game day with Jenna and Emily, which saw plenty of insights to take into their finals. To wrap up the evening, everyone worked through some active recovery techniques to feel fresh for the end of the season.

The event has incorporated the historic AFL Barwon Coaches Awards with the additions of Community Netball Coaching, Club Administrator Awards, and both Football and Netball umpiring awards.

To nominate a Club Administrator, Football or Netball Coach, Personality of the Year or Club Trainer, simply answer the questions below associated with the specific award.

Nominations can be made by any member of the community and is open to all AFL Barwon Affiliated Clubs, Associations and Leagues (GFNL, BFNL, CDFNL, GDFNL, Female Football, Junior Football & Netball, and All Abilities FNL).

Coaches Awards Votes Entry - REMINDER

We are currently following up on a few outstanding submissions to for this year’s award across all Senior Male and Female Football, and A Grade Netball competitions.

To maintain the integrity of the results and ensure players across all clubs are recognised appropriately, we kindly remind all coaches to submit their votes if they haven't already.

Pre-Season Netball Tournament

AFL Barwon is seeking Expressions of Interest from all affiliated clubs across the GFNL, BFNL, CDFNL and GDFNL for a pre-season Senior Netball Tournament, tentatively scheduled for a weekend in late March 2026.

This tournament-style event will provide an exciting opportunity for clubs to fine-tune their squads ahead of the season, test combinations, and enjoy competitive match play in a fun and structured environment.

Epworth Female Football Finals Series Week 1 Fixtures

AFL Barwon is excited to announce the fixtures for the 2025 Female Football Finals across the Epworth Cup and Kings Cup competitions. The finals series will feature the region’s most talented female footballers, with teams from Under 14 through to Senior level competing for premiership honours.

Matches will be played across multiple venues, commencing with Under 18 Friday night fixtures before a full day of finals action on Sunday.

This means you must contact AFL Barwon ASAP if :

you are playing Saturday in week 1 of Bellarine and lose, which will mean you are playing on the Sunday the following week, OR
you know your netball game will be on the Sunday already due to ladder positions

The name of both FOOTBALL AND NETBALL Teams, and the names of players impacted should be emailed to the list above for consideration.

i.e. AFL 14U Girls clash with Barwon Netball 17U Div 1 (9:35am scheduled) – Players impacted – Sophie Allison, Maddie Okely.

Whilst we will endeavour to address these clashes, we cannot guarantee all can be accommodated.

ACTION REQUIRED – Player Payment Reporting Information

As the season draws to a close, it is now time for clubs to begin compiling their ACTUAL Player Payment Spend for the 2025 season. This reporting is due four weeks after your clubs final A Grade game.

As was required at the start of season for your budgets, clubs must complete the ACTUALS SPREADSHEET (linked) reflecting all payments made to A Grade players. This is part of your compliance requirements under the Allowable Player Payments Policies.

UPDATED: Finals – Bench Officials and Team Selection Changes

In an attempt to reduce the amount of paper used through finals, as well as reduce the number of tasks required by clubs on match day, there have been some changes to the processes for finals, which will be included with other finals information when distributed, but I wanted to highlight here.

Bench Officials – TEMPLATE AVAILABLE TO DOWNLOAD

A spreadsheet will be sent to all clubs to complete, nominating who their team bench officials will be for the finals series. We understand many teams will have a stable bench, so needing to provide this each week is not always necessary.

However, if there is a change to your submitted list – then no worries, please pop to the competition office, or email the AFL Barwon team through the week, and we can update this for you. Only those named on our lists will be permitted to sit on the bench.

Starting Positions

While team selections will still be required by Wednesday of each week to enable us to type up position tracking sheets with qualified players, starting positions/line ups will be required to be selected in PlayHQ by 6pm the day before match day.

Again – if there are changes to this post this time, this can be communicated at the competition office.

All teams will still be required to ‘check in’ at the competition office, to run their names over their lists, and ensure all players are listed. From there, umpires will bring the paperwork to the score bench, for the independent scorer and check scorers.
Uniform Reminders
Please be reminded that all players must be in correct uniform. Correct uniform includes:
- Playing dress or approved alternate uniform
- Netball shorts/briefs
Socks (as nominated by your club – see page 181 ofAFL Barwon Handbook)

AFL Barwon Junior Netball Award Nominations
BFNL and GFNL Junior Netball Award nominations are now open! Below is a summary of all awards available to vote on.

DOW Primary Education Award (BFNL Only)
The purpose of this award is to encourage and support the further education, and development in the sport of netball, of a Primary age player within an affiliated Club.

Criteria:
· Age and status i.e. must have completed year 6 at Primary School and entering year 7 the following year
· Club orientation i.e. Contribution to the ideals / practices of the Club
· Self-motivation e.g. Attitude to training, participation in available courses
· Evidence of good sportsmanship
· Talent, and the likelihood of a significant future in netball
· The need for assistance toward the costs of secondary education.

DOW Tertiary Scholarship (BFNL Only)

Dow Australia Pty Ltd has been a valued sponsor of the Bellarine Football Netball League since 1987.

The purpose of this award is to encourage and support the further education, and development in the field of science of a junior age player towards their chosen professional career.

Criteria:
- Age and status i.e. must be a year 12 student entering University in the following year
  · Evidence of good leadership
  · Self-motivation e.g. Attitude to training, participation in available courses
  · The need for assistance toward the costs of higher education
  · Must have ambitions of a future in one of the following careers: Science / Engineering OR Business / Commerce
Junior Coach Encouragement Award (BFNL & GFNL)

The Purpose of this award is to encourage, develop and support a young, aspiring coach.

Criteria:
▪ Hold a current Coaching Accreditation
▪ Hold a current pass in the Rules of Netball theory exam
▪ Needs to be the nominated Coach for a team, not an Assistant.
▪ Be of Junior age: Up to and including 19/Under.
▪ Be a financial member of a club affiliated with AFL Barwon.
▪ Be a financial member of Netball Victoria.
▪ Display the qualities of a good Coach (Arrives early to meet and greet players, Dresses appropriately, Keeps players interested and active during training and warm-up sessions, Can demonstrate and encourage correct skills and apply appropriate fault correction, Gives constructive feedback during training and matches.

Junior Umpire Encouragement Award (BFNL & GFNL)

The purpose of the award is to encourage, develop and support young trainee / badged umpires who are members of a Club affiliated with the Bellarine Football Netball League.

Criteria:
- Completion Foundation umpire course and the rules of netball theory exam prior to or during the year of the award.
- The ability to umpire matches completely unsupervised.
- Willingness to umpire as and when requested by their Club, to dress appropriately, and to act responsibly as an umpire.

All Abilities Grand Final Result

The 2025 All Abilities Netball Grand Final showcased the talent and spirit of our inclusive competition, with Geelong West Giants securing a 28–1 victory over Newcomb.

Congratulations to Cody King on taking out the best on Court.

AFL Barwon extends its congratulations to all participating clubs, players, coaches, officials, and volunteers for their dedication throughout the season. The commitment, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm demonstrated across the year have been a credit to the All Abilities program and the broader football and netball community.
