Having endured and survived another “pre-round one” mad scramble, I believe it is timely to reiterate and note some issues of importance to ensure the next few weeks proceed smoothly without inflicting excessive stress on all concerned.

All players must be registered by the Tuesday before their first game to be eligible for senior selection.
PPVs (Player Points Values) cannot be assigned or updated until the player is registered.
Team lists are now updated weekly.
All players, including Reserves and below, must be registered for the 2025 season before taking the field.
Many former U18s are creating new accounts, losing their playing history.
Players should be registered under their existing account, with the email updated if needed.
Merging accounts requires written approval from the primary account holder.
Altering names or DOBs to avoid transfers or hide playing history is a serious breach — significant penalties apply.
Flag any incorrect registrations or suspicious PPVs immediately to avoid policy breaches.
Players without PPVs cannot play Senior football.
If a coach plans to select a player without a PPV (e.g. U18 or Reserves), the Football Manager must be notified by Tuesday.
Late requests will not always be accommodated — last-minute approvals are not guaranteed.
Clubs must ensure clear communication and timely submissions.
Most recent requests have been denied due to not meeting criteria outlined in the PPSP By Laws.
Requests based on emotion or general appeals will not be considered.
Applications must include the player’s standard declaration.
If a player is paid in excess of $200 per match, their application will not be considered.
Applications are reviewed each Wednesday — submissions after 9am will be deferred to the following week.
Once a player has played Seniors for a club, no reduction will be considered.
Retrospective reassessments will not be accepted (2.1.3).
Coaches must reaccredit annually.
When reaccrediting, they must nominate your club to appear on team sheets.
Simply registering as a coach/volunteer won’t enable access to team sheets.
Renewals must be completed via their Coach AFL account.
Hello to all Female Footy Clubs,
Firstly, WE MADE IT! Thank you to all club Presidents and Coordinators for the amount of work you have done at club level and also supporting myself to get us to the start of the season.
It is going to be an exciting season ahead for Female Football, with the change of day of play sure to bring a different element to game day and help towards building stronger club cultures and inclusiveness for all female players.
Thank you for the collaboration we have all had and also through the President and Coordinator group to ensure we have worked together to get the best outcomes for all teams.
Wishing you all the very best for kick off this weekend and hope to see some of you around at games in the coming weeks. Go the girls!

AFL Barwon’s Football Operations Contacts for 2025 are below –
Thank you to everyone for your continued patience as I navigated my way through fixturing for the next 2 weeks of grading for all age groups of female football.
I am sure there are many girls extremely excited to start their footy journey or return to footy for another season.
As previously mentioned in club communications, we have tried to get the fixture as best as possible for the first two rounds, obviously acknowledging we may not always get it right either, however with reviewing of results weekly ensuring the required changes to have fair results for the remainder of the season is our priority.
If you have any further queries, please don’t hesitate to reach out and all the best for this weekend.
Leading into the first week of football for 2025, please see the below important reminders to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Match Day Paperwork – Submission Process
For non-competitive football, we will continue with the QR code system introduced by Lachlan. I've made a few adjustments to simplify the process, so it’s easier to complete and no longer requires files to be renamed. The key update is that all clubs can now use the same QR code, eliminating the need for club-specific codes.
For competitive football, we’re transitioning to an online submission process, which will be the responsibility of the appointed umpires. Only AFL Barwon umpires have access to the official HQ system. In cases where there are no league-appointed umpires and parent umpires are required; I’ve provided all clubs with a generic QR code. This allows those parent umpires to submit the necessary paperwork and votes. There’s no longer a need to drop paperwork off at AFL Barwon. I strongly recommend keeping any paperwork left in the umpire rooms after each game for your records and in case we have any issues.
Team Managers – Match Day Tools
To ensure Team Managers are well-prepared for the weekend, please confirm that they’ve received the PlayHQ Team Manager Match Day Guide, which covers:
See below the guide, which will help ensure a smooth match-day experience. If any Team Manager has questions about PlayHQ or needs assistance, they can contact me directly.
Multiple Teams in the Same Age Group
A quick reminder for clubs with multiple teams in the same age group, as outlined in the AFL Barwon Handbook – Junior Competition Rules:
25 Multiple Teams in the Same Age Group:
In AFL Barwon Junior Football, a player can only play one game in a particular age group per weekend (including Friday night).
To summarize, a player can only play one game per weekend in their designated age group, regardless of when it’s scheduled.
Finals Eligibility
Please keep the following criteria in mind for Junior Finals Eligibility:
Eligibility for Finals:
A player must play at least three AFL Barwon Junior Football games in a particular age group to be eligible for finals in that group.
Players who’ve played in a higher grade/division must play at least six (6) games in the lower grade to qualify for that team’s finals.
Players who have played more than half the season in a higher grade are ineligible for lower-grade finals.
Players may only play in one final per weekend, even if eligible across teams or age groups.
Finals eligibility is based on the number of games played during the home & away season, including grading games. Playing in older age groups, higher divisions, or rep teams counts as a higher grade.

From Sunday 28 April to Saturday 4 May, AFL Barwon is proudly celebrating Community Umpiring Week – an annual initiative that shines a spotlight on the important role umpires play in our game.
AFL Barwon has a number of exciting initiatives and training opportunities lined up across the region:
Monday 28 April – Women and Girls Experience HUB at Kardinia Park
Kicking off Community Umpiring Week is a special session dedicated to engaging and supporting women and girls in umpiring. AFLW umpires will be in attendance at AFL Barwon Umpire Training from 4:30pm, offering mentorship and sharing their journey through the umpiring ranks.
Tuesday 29 April – Drysdale Precinct Satellite Training Set to Launch
Pending confirmation from the Drysdale Football Netball Club, a new satellite training venue is expected to open its doors. This marks an exciting step forward for umpiring on the Bellarine Peninsula, providing accessible training opportunities closer to home for clubs like the Peninsula Sharks.
Wednesday 1 May – A Visit from the Top
AFL and State League umpires will be in Geelong to attend AFL Barwon Umpire Training. This is a golden opportunity for local umpires to connect with the elite, ask questions, and gain insights into the professional umpiring world.
Tuesday 6 May – Surf Coast Training Begins
While outside the official week, the momentum continues with the launch of a new umpire training venue in North Torquay. This Surf Coast hub is a key piece in the ongoing expansion of umpire support and development in the region.
Umpiring: More Than Just a Whistle
Umpiring provides young people with leadership experience, keeps people active, and connects individuals to the game in a unique and rewarding way. Community Umpiring Week is about growing respect and appreciation for this role while creating a pathway for future umpires from all backgrounds and abilities.
AFL Barwon encourages clubs, players, and supporters to thank their umpires this week – and every week – for their contribution to the game.
If you or someone you know is interested in umpiring, get involved today. Visit aflbarwon.com.au to learn more or contact the AFL Barwon Umpiring Department directly.
The Experience Hubs are an opportunity for Women and Girls in community umpiring to come together and connect with one another. We are extending this invitation to players and those involved in community football to join us for this experience as well! No umpiring experience is required to be a part of the event. We would love to see as many women and girls involved in community football as possible to learn together, make meaningful connections with others in the community and most importantly, have fun!

The AFL Barwon representative program is a key part of the netball talent pathway, providing athletes with high-level coaching, elite match exposure, and opportunities to progress towards higher representative honours. One of the program's highlights is participation in the Netball Victoria Association Championships, where teams compete against the best talent from across the state. This competition serves as a critical platform for player development and identification by Netball Victoria selectors.
AFL Barwon congratulates all appointed coaches and looks forward to an exciting 2025 representative season.
Stay tuned to the AFL Barwon website and our social media channels.

The following correspondence was sent to Female Football Coordinators & Club Presidents last week along with a meeting invite.
Hello Clubs,
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year period!
Thank you to those who have provided feedback on the back of fixtures being released for Female Football in 2025.
As mentioned in the release email, I wish to hold further consultation with clubs to discuss how we can collaboratively work together to ensure the change of Day of Play for female football in 2025 is a success and does not pose any undue stress on volunteers at club level.
I acknowledge that some clubs have already raised the discussion item of game times which will form part of the agenda to ensure we can work through this as a group.
This is an exciting time for the female competition within the Barwon Region. and as such it is crucial that we conduct this session with a 'whole club' representation in a respectful and inclusive manner which we will facilitate at AFL Barwon Headquarters.
Details:
If you can please confirm your attendance for this discussion that would be appreciated. This meeting is for Club Presidents and Female Football Coordinators.
I look forward to working with you all collaboratively to set the 2025 season up for success .
Kind regards,
Lisa (
