Besides from regular AFL Barwon training, there are a range of opportunities to connect and develop at both a state and national level. For any further information, see the below opportunities or contact your umpire coach.
MENTORING
Aside from what’s taught in training, we pair new recruits with more experienced umpires to act as mentors. Just ask your AFL Barwon coach to help find you a good fit.
WOMEN & GIRLS
AFL Barwon is committed to creating positive and enjoyable experience for Women and Girls (cis or trans), and non-binary umpires, with a range of events to connect, upskill and make umpiring an enjoyable experience for all.
The Community Umpire Training Program is designed to support the development of community umpires across Australia and provide resources to community umpiring clubs who facilitate training.
Unfortunately, umpires can be the target of on-field abuse. But it’s not their job to stop it. The ‘Umpire Respect’ campaign is here to show the impact of umpire bullying and highlight how it’s all of our responsibility to make matchday a supportive and positive environment.
The AFL Integrity Reporting Portal allows members, including umpires, to make a report relating to allegations that may contravene the AFL Rules and Policies. Make a complaint here.
