What To Look Out For In The Opening Rounds of Senior Female Football in 2020

Following the release of the first two grading rounds of Epworth Senior Female Football this week, we’ve looked ahead to what matches to put in your diaries ahead of the season starting on April 5.

ROUND 1 (Sun, Apr 5)

GEELONG AMATEUR 1 VS GEELONG WEST GIANTS 1 (KFC Oval, 2pm)

A replay of last year’s Division one thrilling Preliminary Final, the clash between the Ammos and Giants promises to be another cracker. In last season’s Prelim, the Giants held a seven-point lead at three-quarter time before being held scoreless in the final term as Ammos booted three goals to take the victory.

SOUTH BARWON VS ST ALBANS (McDonald Reserve, 2pm)

Two of the newest Senior Female sides will go to head at McDonald Reserve to open a new era for the competition and both the Swans and SuperSaints. The male GFNL Swans and SuperSaints also clash in round one of the Geelong Football Netball League season.

ROUND 2 (Sun, Apr 19)

NORTH GEELONG VS GEELONG AMATEUR 1 (Keith Barclay Oval, 2pm)

North Geelong are aiming to to impress back in Division one after their 2019 Division two premiership, and will face a stern test early against Geelong Amateur. Under the stewardship of new coach Aliesha Wilkes, the female football trailblazers will be looking for a victory on home turf too.

OCEAN GROVE VS BARWON HEADS 2 (Ray Menzies Oval, 2pm)

A treat for those footy fans looking for an early instalment of the Battle of the Bridge, with Barwon Heads 2 and Ocean Grove going head to head on April 19. Barwon Heads were big winners in both matches last season, and the Grubbers will be out for a strong performance in front of their home crowd. No matter who is playing in it, a Battle of the Bridge always means a bit more to the players.
