Put It In Your Diaries- What to Look Out for In The 2020 GFNL Season

If you haven’t already seen it, the 2020 Blood Toyota GFNL fixture was released on Friday. Here’s what we think you can pencil into your diaries looking ahead to 2020.

Round 1- Colac vs St Mary’s at Central Reserve (Football)

The fixture gods have looked after us, with the two teams who played off in one of the greatest ever GFNL Grand Finals this season to kick off 2020 with the rematch. Already put this one down for a classic. Interestingly, St Mary’s defeated Colac at Central Reserve for their first victory of 2019.

Round 1- Leopold vs Newtown & Chilwell at Leopold Community Bank Oval (Football and Netball)

2020 will mark the third edition of the Pride Cup between the Lions and Eagles. With the venue alternating each year, the fixture is back at Leopold next season and is always an occasion if nothing else not to miss.

Round 2- St Mary’s vs St Joseph’s at Anthony Costa Oval (Football)

The Saints will unfurl their Premiership flag under lights in Round two against their biggest rivals. St Joseph’s handed St Mary’s a heavy defeat in the exact same fixture last year, but expect a much closer showing in 2020.

Round 3- South Barwon vs St Joseph’s at McDonald Reserve (Netball)

It doesn’t get much bigger than South Barwon and St Joseph’s on Anzac Day. The A Grade netball clash is always a cracker the draws a big crowd with the long-time rivals facing off, and next season will be no different. All clubs will play on Anzac Day in 2020 with April 25 falling on a Saturday.

Round 7- St Albans vs Newtown & Chilwell at Gordon Tafe Oval (Netball)

The A Grade grand finalists from the past two seasons will have to wait until round seven to play each other again, but it will still draw plenty of eyes. The all-dominant Newtown side will be looking to maintain their unblemished record.
