Colac netball stars among key recruits for Geelong West Giants GFNL netball in 2017
In a busy off-season recruiting drive, Geelong West Giants GFNL netball has secured Colac and former Australian junior netball defender Brooke Allan along with her sister Kara Allan, Bell Park mid-courter Kesley Rau, Bannockburn defender Pene Wood and former Adelaide (Contax) State League shooter Tara Fabris. Joining them is former GWSP Roosters and State League player Jess Leader, who played all of her junior and several senior years of netball at West Oval.
Geelong West Giants GFNL head coach and former Australian netball team member Catherine Gillespie has been a significant drawcard for players who are keen to learn under her highly credentialed and well regarded coaching style.
“I’ve chosen to join the Geelong West Giants as they are building a strong culture of commitment, community and pathways. The professional and respectful approach to recruitment, administration and communication of the General Manager of Netball Sharon Gillett has been a vital part of why the Giants’ netball division will be successful in 2017.
“We are well into pre-season and planning for the year, and with large numbers of players returning including a group of talented juniors coming into the senior ranks – we are excited to start the season,” Gillespie said.
Jill Leader has also come on board as the Director of Coaching (Netball). Former State League and GWSP head coach, Leader will have oversight of all the senior coaches in the GDFL and GFNL netball division.
