The highly successful Country Football and Netball Program has reached another milestone with its 500th project funded since 2005.
The Program and partnership between the Victorian Government, AFL, AFL Victoria and Netball Victoria recently announced that 17 projects will share over $1.6 million from the latest round of the $9 million Country Football and Netball Program.
Head of AFL Victoria Rick Bell congratulated all the clubs who were successful and thanked the clubs, volunteers and councils for their ongoing support in developing welcoming and inclusive facilities for football.
“Country football and netball clubs are the lifeblood of their communities and providing facilities that provide for everyone is a key aim of AFL Victoria.”
“AFL Victoria is incredibly grateful for this partnership with the Victorian Government, AFL and Netball Victoria that has now supported 500 projects.”
The Program provides funding to develop new and upgrade existing ageing facilities for football and netball clubs across rural, regional and outer metropolitan Victoria in order to meet the growing demand for facilities.
Grants of up to $100,000 were available towards projects such as ground resurfacing, the installation of lighting, building modern and safer netball courts and new pavilions with accessible and female-friendly change rooms.
The growth of female football, from 58 teams in 2010 to over 1,000 this year, highlights the need to continue to build facilities that are suitable for women and girls.
