Grovedale supporters and past players are expected to head to Burdoo Reserve this Saturday for a special occasion as club legend Nathan ‘Marshy’ Martin reaches his 300-game milestone against Lara.
The Martin family has been synonymous at Tigerland and Nathan is a third generation footballer, following in the footsteps of his grandfather Ossie, a life member, and his father Steve ‘Skinny’ Martin, a two-time premiership player and multiple best and fairest winner.
Nathan’s brother Wes is also a 150-plus game player with the club and his sister Alissa runs Grovedale’s Friday night Auskick program.
Nathan played all of his junior football with the Tigers and made his senior debut in 1999. According to his club he has been “an outstanding team mate to many, a great role model for others to aspire to, a former club captain, a club best and fairest winner and a formidable opponent to those he has lined up against. He has always plays the game in an exemplary manner.
“Nathan’s courage is unquestioned by those who have seen him go back with the flight in front of oncoming full forwards over many years, never fearing for his own safety, and always putting team performance before self-interest.
“The Grovedale Tigers family is extremely proud and feels very fortunate to have someone the calibre of ‘Marshy’ achieving such a magnificent milestone.”
