The Ocean Grove Collendina Cobras are bringing back State of Origin football (sort of) this Saturday as the Cobras host one of the largest AFL clubs in Sydney, the NSW Glebe Greyhound football club, in a match that will celebrate grassroots junior footy and raise vital funds for an important charity.
The Under 10’s and 12’s squad are giving up their school holidays to play against the visiting New South Welshmen in what promises to be a fun and competitive afternoon at Minerva Oval in Ocean Grove, with the match kicking off at 1pm.
OG Collendina Cobras President Shaun Stow said, “We’re proud of our club and our 13 teams that represent Ocean Grove each weekend in our community, and we’re looking forward to matching up against the Glebe Greyhounds with our special State of Origin Squad”.
The idea of re-booting the State of Origin event was born from both coaches from either club holidaying together, who then floated the idea and now will come to reality at Minerva Oval.
Vitally, entry to the match is a gold coin donation, with all proceeds going to the ‘Rivers Gift Foundation’, which is Australia’s leading Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) research funding organisation. Each club will also make their own donation to the charity.
Both clubs hope to make this feature match an ongoing event in the years to come.
