St Mary’s Netball Preview

21 April 2016

St Marys has experienced massive player movements over the off season, seeing players such as Elley Heard, Elyse Howard, Brittany Hyland, Jess McNamara, Megan Cartwright and Lucy Vercher to leave the club.

New recruits Hannah Van Gemst from Anglesea FNC along with Kate Fowles, Molly Gribble and Zoe Donne from GWSP have filled the vacant spots.

Van Gemst has been noted as a player to watch for St Mary’s this season, the under 19s Cougars player will bring movement and height into the goal circle.

Finishing 10th in the 2015 season has motivated St Marys to break into the top 5 this upcoming season.

Renee Garing is to take on the A grade coaching role with new assistant coach Bruce Waldron.

Garing believes that last season’s final ladder position did not represent the quality of netball that the side was playing.

“Last year we had some great games, coming close to and beating some top sides, but then also having close games with all teams and losing a couple that we shouldn’t have.

“This season we are looking to be consistent. Our preseason trainings and camp have set the tone for what could be a great season” says Garing.
