AFL Barwon would also like to thank all coaches and support staff who give up their time and effort to make days like these a possibility. Russell Lucas will coach the Under 13’s, Michael King and Paul Listro will co-handle the duties for the under 14s, while Arthur Hodgson will take charge of the under 16’s
Both Girls teams will also be co-coached, with the Under 15 Girls led by Ken Hannam and Anthony Petkovic, while the Under 18 Girls will be coached by Neville Daffy and Chris Hickey.
Today is a great opportunity for all the boys and girls to showcase their wares, and to them and their families we pass on a hearty congratulations on being selected. And finally, to all sponsors from both AFL Barwon and AFL Goldfields, your generosity makes both leagues what they are and enable us to put on events like today.
The boys Under 16 side is a strong one, with eight players from division one table toppers St Mary’s featuring in Hodgson’s final 24-man squad.
The Under 14 boys has an even spread from GFL clubs, with Grovedale, who are placed fourth in division one, having the most players in the squad with five, with St Joseph’s (3) and Newtown & Chilwell (4) also having strong representation.
The Under 15 and Under 18 Girls games are also a huge part of today’s lineup, with girls football through both regions experiencing a boom. Possible Father-Daughter prospects for the AFLW in years to come Mackenzie McGrath (daughter of ex-Cat Tim), Charlotte Simpson (daughter of ex-Cats Sean and brother of current Cat Sam) plus Piper Mensch (daughter of 158 gamer for Geelong, David) are all running out for the Under 15 girls.
