Some good news for some AFL Barwon and GDFNL clubs overnight, with the City of Greater Geelong passing a motion on Tuesday night to waive building rental and ground fees.
Five BFNL clubs fall under the COGG banner- Drysdale (Mortimer Oval), Geelong Amateur (KFC Oval), Newcomb (Newcomb Sand & Soil Oval), Ocean Grove (Ray Menzies Oval) and Portarlington (Portarlington Recreation Reserve).
Colac is the only GFNL club to sit outside the council’s reach for geographical reasons, with all other 11 clubs in the competition to benefit from the assistance during this difficult time, which has the potential to save clubs thousands of dollars.
Geelong umpires will also receive rent relief.
COGG councillors passed a host of measures aimed to assist local businesses and community groups to try and battle with the Coronavirus on Tuesday.
The waving of the fees has been backdated to March 1st, and will be in place for six months.
