Geelong Cougars had a fantastic year in the Victorian Netball League. The under 19 cougar’s side had 17 wins from 18 games with one draw against DC North East Blaze, who they defeated by 6 goals in the first semi-final putting them straight through to the grand final. Geelong came up against DC North East Blaze in the grand final again, beating them by 6 goals.
Stand out performances for the season in the under 19 team showed 5 players awarded VNL team of the year selections. Defenders Brooke Allan (Colac) and Allie Smith (Leopold). Mid courters Riley Stephens (Colac) and Laura Cayzer (St Albans), and goaler Hannah Van Gemst (St Mary’s).
The 2016 under 19 VNL coach of the year was awarded to Mel Savage (Bell Park).
In division 1 Geelong cougars had another solid year being put out of the first final by Boorandara Genesis by 2 goals. Geelong Cougars goaler Grace Parker (Bell Park) and mid-courter Bianca Cheever (Bell Park) were selected in the 2016 VNL team of the year.
