BFNL Preview Round 9

Barwon Heads vs Anglesea

Barwon Heads were outclassed for two quarters against Ammos, resembling little of the side that regularly pushed Geelong Amateur in 2015. A 67-point loss was the end result and the Seagulls need to get back to its best and quickly – the week off coming at a great time. While the Roos had no reason for a week off as they continue to impress. It was made to work hard against the Grubbers, coming from behind at three quarter-time to win its third match in a row.

Last time they met: Round 11, 2015. Barwon Heads 18.17 (125) def Anglesea 6.10 (46)

Prediction: Barwon Heads by 2 points.

Drysdale vs Newcomb

Newcomb had its most competitive performance of the season last week against Modewarre, but it can ill afford to slip back to poor habits. It’s set the standard and must build from here. Drysdale led Queenscliff at half-time, before conceding 15 second half goals, kicking just four itself. A big win here will get the Hawks right back in the mix of the top five.

Last time they met: Round 14, 2015. Drysdale 28.20 (188) def Newcomb 4.4 (28)

Prediction: Drysdale by 91 points.

Portarlington vs Queenscliff

Portarlington take to the field with interim coach Nick Daniele at the helm, after former-coach Matt Sproule was sacked following growing pressure both on and off the field. The Demons will be immediately tested against the Coutas, who have dropped just one match. Queenscliff’s only blemish has been a three-point loss to Torquay. As we hit the halfway mark, an 8-1 start would be as good as the club could’ve hoped for.

Last time they met: Round 13, 2015. Queenscliff 17.12 (114) def Portarlington 10.18 (78)

Prediction: Queenscliff by 74 points.

Geelong Amateur vs Modewarre

Ammos produced some of its best form for 2016 against the Seagulls before the bye and continue to go from strength to strength as the season wears on. Quietly positioning themselves very nicely for another finals stint. While Modewarre is also enjoying a good vein of form, but Geelong Amateur at Queens Park will be a stern test and provide a sound test to the young side.

Last time they met: Round 14, 2015. Geelong Amateur 19.13 (127) def Modewarre 3.18 (36)

Prediction: Geelong Amateur by 63 points.

Ocean Grove vs Torquay

Ocean Grove’s only win in the past six weeks has been against Newcomb, but you could argue its been in the majority of those five losses deep into the match. It returns home this week to host a Torquay side desperate for the four points. The Tigers haven’t been firing on all cylinders but Saturday brings the opportunity to turn 5-4 at the halfway mark and build from that foundation.

Last time they met: Round 11, 2015. Torquay
