Senior Women’s Competition coming in 2018

AFL Barwon are excited to announce that in 2018, we will be commencing an Senior Womens Competition in our region.

With the overwhelming success of our junior female competitions over the past years and the news of Geelong Football Club’s successful AFLW licencing bid, we feel that this is the perfect time to expand into an senior competition.

We have had confirmation from the following clubs that they will be looking to have an Senior Womens team in 2018.

Barwon Heads, Bell Post Hill, Colac Imperials, Drysdale, Geelong Amateur, Geelong West Giants, Grovedale, Lara, North Geelong, Ocean Grove, St Joseph’s, St Mary’s.

AFL Victoria Development Manager Katie Geerings who has been heavily involved in the growth of female football was quoted saying “It is fantastic for the region to get to this stage compared to where we were 3 years ago”. “Last season we were overwhelmed with the number of new girls in our underage competitions, the Senior Womens competition now gives all girls an opportunity to play football”.

AFL Barwon in conjunction with the Geelong Cats and Geelong Falcons are holding a Womens information and Come and Try Day on Saturday November 18th. This will be held at Deakin University in Waurn Ponds from 10am to 12pm. Participants must be 16 years of age by January 1st 2018 to take part in the event.

To register, simply click here fill out the registration form.

The combined Come and Try Day is for both girls wanting to just come for a kick for the first time, to others wanting to test themselves at the elite level.
